Conference News for September 17, 2009
WEEK IN REVIEW:
Congratulations, you have all successfully endured the first three blocks of 2009-2010 academic year! Its only 14 days to ACEP, 157 days to the in-service and 283 days to freedom for the R3s. Grit your teeth and bear down; it’s time to “empuje” your way through block 4 and the world of OBGYN.
Last week’s academic highlights included Journal Club and our academic conference. Dozens (thousands, millions) gathered at Pappasitos Restaurant last Wednesday to engage in academic discourse and partake in libations. Jason Schaefer reportedly received a standing ovation for his presentation of two articles discussing the management of esophageal foreign bodies. Of course this rousing response was somewhat confounded by the temporally juxtaposed arrival of the margaritas, but all accounts of the led discussion have been highly complimentary. Either way, bougienage seemed to be the ultimate winner.
Conference last week was full of fun. Josh Kern demonstrated that studying actually does work by preparing Visual Diagnosis Part Duex and schooling us with his acquired knowledge. Thanks for your hard work Josh! We then had and excellent case conference with Dr. Tran and Dr, Velez. Matt Muller next gave a Senior Resident Grand Rounds on space medicine. Darn fine work on that one Matt. Dr. Moore (a.k.a Porter - one of the coolest peds fellows ever) next gave us a lecture on rashes in the pediatric population. Finally, we had Grand Rounds with the Chief of Pediatric EM at CMC Dallas, Dr. Hennes.
NEXT WEEK:
- Sep 23th @ 4-6pm: The blockly in-service review session
- Sep 24th @ 8am-12pm: Conference includes Case Conference and SRGR, as well as lectures on rape and vaginal bleeding
