Residents from the Class of 2011

Fort Worth, TX
Texas A&M University
Biomedical Science
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston

After growing up in Fort Worth, I was lured back to Dallas to train in Emergency Medicine. I chose UTSW/Parkland for several reasons: autonomy, county hospital, acuity, volume, location, the people, and proximity to family. I have really enjoyed the residency so far and it is amazing how fast it has gone by. I anticipate practicing Emergency Medicine in the metroplex after learning all that I can over the next year at Parkland/New Zealand.

Houston
Texas A&M University-Genetics
UTHSCSA

I grew up in Houston and said I was going to be a doctor from the time I was two. As an undergrad I earned my EMT and worked my way through college as an EMT-B. I spent a year working on an ambulance before starting med school. EM seemed to be the best fit for me with my prehospital emergency background and desire to treat people where their need is greatest. Between med school and college I spent a year doing research on prehospital trauma and shock here at UTSW.
When I am not at work I spend time with my family. The combination of work and family makes for busy days, but also a life more rewarding than I could ever express.

Rio de Janeiro
UFRJ, Brazil
UFRJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

I graduated from Medical School in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2000. I came to the US to celebrate med school graduation... Long story short, I completed an IM Residency in 2008 at the RAHC - UTHCSA (what ???) prior to starting my EM residency.
I have a 2 year old son, Lucas and I spend most my free time at home with my family.

Rio 2016... I'm so excited... See you all there!!

Houston
Northwestern University - Psychology
University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio

Dallas is the third city in Texas I've lived in, though I'm not orignally from Texas--I was born in London, then lived in New Jersey, Michigan, Toronto, CA and then Houston, and left to go to Evanston, IL outside of Chicago for college. My husband is a Neurosurgery resident, so we will be in Dallas for a while, and between the two of us spend A LOT of time at Parkland. As for hobbies--I love to run, travel, have loved photography since high school, and love eating out with friends =)

Big Spring, TX
Texas A&M University
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston

I was born and raised in a small town in West Texas, before moving to College Station (gig em!), where I recieved my degree in Animal Science. I attended medical school at UTMB in Galveston, and decided to come to Dallas for residency. In my spare time I like to ride my horse, and we actively compete in dressage (google it!). I also love reading, snow skiing, and drinking wine.

Humble, TX
Vanderbilt University - Biomedical Engineering
UT Houston

Thanks for checking out my killer picture b/c now I'm over 300 pounds & considering the lap band. When I'm not eating twinkies & chugging warmed crisco; I'm usually out in my garage throwing pots (pottery... and yes just like Ghost). Earlier this year, I built a gas kiln in backyard (don't tell the po-po) which gets redonkeyulessly hot - over 2300'F. Anyways, good luck with the match & give me a holla if you have any questions about the residency, Irving, pottery, or have any good recipes for fried butter.

Jackson, MS
Jackson State University - Psychology
Meharry Medical College

I was proudly born and raised in Jackson, MS. After my undergaduate studies, I moved to Nashville, TN, where I earned a Masters of Science in Public Health degree and attended medical school at Meharry Medical College. My interests are related to health services administration, rural and indigent health care. I aspire to one day return to MS and help bring change to the ongoing healthcare crisis. In addition, I hope to provide innovative ideas to bridge the gap in the availability of emergency medicine physicians in rural MS. My hobbies include dancing, music, arts & crafts, and chillaxing! I honestly appreciate and enjoy the experience and training that I receive here at UTSW. It's phenomenal to learn from and interact with the absolute best in emergency medicine physicians and staff on a daily basis.

Henderson, NV
University of Southern California-BS Biochemistry
University of Nevada

I am from Las Vegas...no I did not live in the Bellagio or any other hotel on the strip. I chose Parkland for the acuity, volume, independence, and the down-to-earth residents and attendings. I am a hardcore college football fan and in my free time I like to hike, run, go to bars, meet new people, and travel.

Memphis, Tennessee
Rice University - BA in Mathematics & History
Columbia Law School - JD
University of Texas Southwestern Medical School

I left a budding but boring legal career, inspired by my high-school-sweetheart & wife Aimee (a pediatrician) to go into medicine. EM is the antithesis of my former life of bankers' boxes and legal research. Aimee & I have a delightful toddler daughter, Adelaide, who is pretty well traveled for a resident's kid. We went to France during intern year and China this year. When I get a day off, Aimee and I can often be found sailing on Lake Lewisville.

Duncan, OK
University of Oklahoma - Management Information Systems, BBA; Minor Zoology, Cum Laude
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston

I love my wife, 2 year-old daughter, and infant son. I enjoy computers & technology when I have a few minutes to myself. My wife and I are both licensed private pilots and we fly when we can, but residency and parenthood have seriously cut into our aviation time. I worked prior to medical school at St. Luke's and Texas Heart Institute, both part of the Texas Medical Center in Houston.

Tulsa, OK
University of Oklahoma - BS Zoology, BA Psychology
University of Oklahoma

I went to OU for both undergrad and med school. I have been married to my wife Meredith for just over 4 years now and we live way up in Lewisville with our dog Wrigley. She works as an event planner at the Westin City Center downtown, and yes she is able to hook up friends with discounted hotel rates. Anyone that knows me can tell you that if I have a day off of work there is a good chance I am on a golf course somewhere.

Dallas, Texas
Southern Methodist University - Biochemisty
Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara / New York Medical College

I am very fortunate to have had the oportunity to train here, as I was initally a resident at UTMB prior to the arrival of Hurricane Ike. I was welcomed to this program with open arms by everyone in it and have been fortunate to be surrounded by some of the nicest people you'll ever meet.
I am from Dallas originally and love this city! When I'm not working, I'm usually at the gym or doing something fitness related. Working at this program requires hard work, ambition, a lot of self-motivation, and desire to be a trailblazer. Balancing work and free time is also very important, but it can be done. If you want to be in EM, this city has a lot to offer, trust me. Just try the tacos at Fuel City. Tell 'em Marcos sent you! (may be good for one free taco)

Carrollton, TX
Texas A&M University - Molecular & Cell Biology
Mayo Medical School

I found my way into the ER after working as a chemistry teacher in inner-city Dallas followed by a four year stint in the tundra known as Minnesota before returning back to warm Texas! I'm married to my lovely wife, Melissa, and I have three children - Karuna, Luke and Vivek. We are planning on going abroad to work at a mission hospital near the India-Nepal border after I finish residency. I enjoy photography, travel, gardening and most things computer related.

Topeka, KS
The University of Kansas - Human Biology B.A.
The University of Kansas School of Medicine

I grew up in Kansas, and am a devout Jayhawk. I live in Rowlett with my beautiful wife and daughter, and our two dogs. I came to Parkland for an experience that few other programs could match in terms of acuity and volume, and it has been wonderful so far. In my spare time I try to get out onto the golf course as much as possible. I love to bbq for friends and family. I also love traveling with my wife, playing with my daughter, College Basketball and Yankees Baseball.

Plano, TX
Baylor University - Forensic Science

Born and raised in Texas, my wife and I lived in Chicago for a couple of years, but are now very excited to be back in the Lonestar State.  We met at Baylor, went to medical school together, and she is currently a dermatology resident at Southwestern.  I like to bike, ski, workout, and play pretty much any intramural sport.  And I'm still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up.

Plano, TX
Austin College - Biology, Art
University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston

I grew up in the Dallas area and am happy to be back. I currently live in Dallas with my girlfriend (an OB/GYN) intern and our 3-lb Chihuahua, Pumpkin. My favorite time of the year is football season - I love the Cowboys!

San Diego, CA
San Deigo State University - Philosophy
Midwestern University

I grew up in San Diego where I went to undergrad. I then moved to Phoenix, AZ for medical school and have landed here in the Dallas area. My professional interests include third world medicine/missions and event medicine. Otherwise, I enjoy spending time with my fam, camping, fishing, traveling, surfing, snowboarding and golf.

Atlanta, GA
Rice University - Biochemistry, German
University of Texas Southwestern Medical School

I have been in Texas going on 10 years now, but I was born in California & grew up in Atlanta. Talk to me about Hotlanta any time! Interests: photography, tennis, health policy, travel, & vietnamese food. I have been and always will be a Braves fan (Rice owls too!) I also consider myself a founding member & keyboardist for the almost-defunct c/o 2011 band (formerly known as the "intern band"), along with Jordan, Archie, and Lisa. I just celebrated my 2-year anniversary to my husband John, who is probably the most immature person I know but also my best friend.

Norman, OK
University of Oklahoma - BA in English
Univeristy of Texas Southwestern Medical School

I grew up in the great state of Oklahoma and attended the University of Oklahoma, obtaining a BA in English of all things. I moved to Texas and taught high school English for three years before deciding (quite logically???) to go to medical school. I attended UT Southwestern for medical school and liked it so much I decided to stay for residency. The training and resources here are excellent, and I love the privilege of working with some truly amazing yet downright friendly people. In my free time I like to run, read, watch movies, eat out, cheer on my beloved Sooners, and spend time with my amazing, wonderful, fantastic, sweet, and loving wife and the newest addition to our family, our daughter, Lexi.

Troy, MI
University of Michigan
Wayne State University

Shoveling snow off your car every day in the winter - this is not fun. So after 25 good years in Michigan, I wound up in sunny Texas, where I get the heat I wanted..and 20 more degrees added on. Parkland has been great for its high acuity, and after residency, we'll know how to juggle 25 things/patients/procedures at once. Good stuff. For fun, I love singing, tennis, bubble tea, art, and getting out of the US once or twice a year.
