Residents from the Class of 2012
I was born in the UK, raised all over Texas, and then moved to a small town in southern New Mexico. After attending medical school in Arkansas, I decided that Dallas was going to be my final stop along the southern trail. I chose Parkland because of the large volume, acuity, Pediatric experience, awesome residents, and the amazing faculty. Dallas offers great food, plenty of exciting activities, and premier sports teams. In my spare time I like to golf, travel, try new foods, and follow the Dallas Cowboys and Mavericks!
I grew up in DFW and my husband and I are very glad to be back. We recently bought out first home, our first puppy, and have begun to foster parent. All are things that we have wanted to do for a very long time, but doing them all at once at the beginning of intern year may not have been the wisest. However, every week I realize new reasons that I'm so grateful to be a part of this wonderful program and I'm really having the time of my life doing what I love.
Name's Eric.
Not sure where they got that picture but it pretty much tells ya everything about about me.. I'm a pretty laid back guy sitting back and enjoyin' life. Born in Cali, moved to Huntsville, Alabama when I was twelve.... that's right, Alabama. ( and no I have never ridden a tractor or worn a pair of overalls) Southern guy at heart despite my west coast origin, went to college at the almighty Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA. Did the med school thing at Baylor in Houston , and now at Parkland savin' lives and takin' names .....lol
I am originally from Amarillo, Texas. I went to TCU for Undergrad (GO FROGS!) then moved to Dallas for medical school at UTSW. I loved Parkland so much that I decided to stick around for another 3 years for residency. During medical school I married my college sweetheart, Heath, who is a corporate lawyer in Fort Worth. I also had a baby boy, Sawyer, who is now almost 11 months. I love to cook and watch football especially my Horned Frogs and Cowboys!
Originally from GA, I attended medical school in Washington, DC at GW. Although I had a great time there, I was definitely ready to get back to the south for residency. I'm really enjoying my time here in Dallas with my wife. Dallas has everything about DC that I enjoyed and more (restaurants, fun places to go out, nearby lakes) without the hassle of a congested city. Not only that, but the program here is outstanding, and I know I will come out prepared to practice in any setting
I guess you can say I can't make up my mind on where to live. I’ve lived in FL, Chi-town, attended undergrad at Western Illinois University (Go Leathernecks!), then was drawn to the bright lights and easy money (or so I thought) of Las Vegas. After 5 yrs of playing paramedic in the world’s playground, I left for medical school in Missouri. Why Parkland? History, acuity, volume, autonomy, renowned faculty and amazing opportunities, what else could a former medic ask for, plus it's Dallas!
I was born in Juarez, Mexico, where I got an awesome scar in the back of my head from a gang rock fight. I moved to the Fort Worth, Texas, at the "no nintendo ingles" age of 8, where I went to high school. I learned there were other joys in life besides my mother's cooking and ventured out to Texas Tech where I learned the art of breaking/training horses with my Animal Science degree. I decided I would use my newfound skills and went to Med. School at UTMB Galveston and now I find myself full circle back to my mother's cooking right down the street in Dallas, which I believe is the best place to train, live, and serve a population in need. In my spare time I enjoy meeting new people, boxing, running marathons and giving most of my money to "Homes" Depot.
Grew up in Portland, OR, was unschooled from 2nd grade to age 16, worked as a lifeguard, studied physics and bioethics, like languages, am a vegetarian, play guitar, a little piano, love the outdoors, aspire to artistry.
Med school in 1997 < FP residency in 2000 < military as an ER doc in Vegas until 2002 < some funky stuff in Special Operations until 2005 < then got recruited to go around and train the government, the military, and other countries in battlefield medicine. Did that for 2 1/2 years and then got back into civilian medicine by working as an ER doc again for a year and now here I am. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.
UTSW is my 3rd step through the University of Texas trifecta - UT Austin for undergrad, UTMB for med school, and UTSW for residency. I chose UTSW because it offers huge patient numbers with high acuity while having the benefits and resources of a leading academic institution. The options to work Dallas sports games and spend 2 months in New Zealand were also very appealing. I spend my free time playing golf, poker, video games, and rooting for the Houston Rockets.
I don't always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.
Stay thirsty, my friends.
I apologize for grammar ahead of time for I cannot recall the last time I had to write in complete sentences. I’m originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. I moved to San Antonio, Texas around middle school. Then, I attended a small private university to get on the fast track for medical school. After 3 years, I opted out of a degree in biochem and started medical school in San Antonio. After interviewing in multiple places, there was no place like Dallas. People here are extremely friendly (for the most part) and thankful. I love my job and the people I work with. In my spare time I enjoy trying out new restaurants, eating food, hanging out with friends, meeting new people, racquetball, running, paintballing, anything outdoors, and hopefully soon will try a triathlon. More to come soon.
Medicine is a second career for me. After undergrad, I worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in systems consulting for about 10 years. I got to travel extensively, including New York City, London, Singapore, and Sydney. In 2002, I plucked up the courage to return to school to pursue medicine. Dallas has been my home since 1996. My wife, Kristin, is a math teacher at Highland Park High School and I have two kids, Austin (3) and Sydney (6). I'm also an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Born and raised in a small town south of New Orleans, I am now enjoying, for the first time, living outside of southern Louisiana. Dallas couldn't have been a better choice! I married my husband, an ortho intern at Parkland, right before graduating from med school, and we're starting to get used to seeing each other more inside of Parkland than in our own home. HA! In my spare time, I enjoy running, frozen yogurt, improving our new home, and painting (my newest hobby).
Grew up in the hub of the south plains. Migrated to beautiful Texas hill country for my undergrad at Texas A&M. Unable to resist beautiful siren call of west Texas, I went back to Lubbock for medical school at TTU.
My biography can be best explained as an ER presentation (short and to the point)

I chose emergency medicine because of my college experience of working as an EM physician scribe at Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. I enjoy the action, lifestyle, meeting interesting people, and doing procedures. I chose Parkalnd because of the great residents, staff and educational resourses. Dallas is a great city because of the warm weather, affordability, sports and numerous restaurants. With my free time, I enjoy lifting heavy objects and putting them back where I found them. I also enjoy hanging out with my wife and rat terrier. A random fact is that I was the placekicker for the SMU football team in undergraduate. If you have any questions about Parkland or how much warm crisco Chris Iverson actually drinks a day then email me at tstep4@parknet.pmh.org.
I spent several years growing up in a small town in East Texas before heading off to Kentucky to spend my days showing cattle, riding horses, 4-wheeling and fishing! After college at UK (Go CATS!!), I headed east for 4 amazing years in DC!! Now I find myself back in Texas, and I couldn’t be happier! Dallas and UTSW have far exceeded my expectations in every way! I am super happy that I matched here at Parkland, and I encourage everyone interested in EM to take an extra look at UTSW!!
I grew up in Tampa, Florida, where I learned to love wakeboarding and hanging in the sun. I headed north for college in Ithaca where I learned to tolerate sub-zero temperatures while studying till 2 AM every day. After realizing that cold weather was not my thing, I went back to Tampa for med school at USF. Now I'm here in Dallas, which is an absolutely amazing city with so much to do. Other hobbies include being a house music DJ, flying, and sleeping on post-call days.
